Voter Registration Deadline for Special Primary

(AP) — The Cook County Clerk’s office is reminding eligible citizens to register by Jan. 29 if they want to vote in the special primary election to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.

That’s the registration deadline for voting in the Feb. 26 primary. There are more than 30 total contests in suburban Cook County including the race for Jackson’s former seat in the 2nd Congressional District.

The Chicago Democrat resigned from Congress at the end of the year, citing health issues and an ongoing federal investigation.

The county clerk’s office is also taking applications for mail-in ballots. Voting by mail is open to all voters.
