Ella Mae Brayboy, a lifelong activist who worked during the civil rights movement to register thousands of black voters, has died.
ATLANTA (AP) — Ella Mae Brayboy, a lifelong activist who worked during the civil rights movement to register thousands of black voters, has died.
She was 92. Brayboy died Wednesday, according to Grissom-Clark Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.
Brayboy wa director of community affairs for The King Center for 15 years, retiring in 1995. She also worked as a congressional aide to Rep. Andrew Young, and Gov. Joe Frank Harris appointed her to a commission to oversee the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday. during that decade.
A collection of her documents is archived at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African-American Culture and History.
Brayboy is survived by three daughters, Joyce Brayboy Jones, Wilma Brayboy Bailey and Eleanor Brayboy
Brayboy’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church.
