Christmas week turned out to be a deadly one in the Bronzeville community as two women were killed in separate incidents. A woman was found Tuesday night by Chicago police in an alley in the 4700 block of South King Drive. She died Thursday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. According to Chicago police, the woman, who has not yet been identified, was in her 20s and was discovered around 11 p.m. A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday but has not been charged yet. And on Wednesday another woman was killed along 47th Street after she tried to rob a man at gunpoint. Barbara McComb, 21, of the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue was pronounced dead Wednesday evening at Stroger Hospital from a single gunshot wound. Chicago police said the woman and four Black males abducted and robbed a 32 year-old Black man as he was walking past Maggie’s Gyros at 349 E. 47th St. Three of the males got out of the car and went inside Maggie’s to use the ATM to withdraw cash from the victim’s bank account while another male and McComb held the victim at gunpoint in the car. At some point a struggle ensued between the victim, who police did not identify, and two offenders. Somehow the victim was able to wrestle the gun away and escape from the car. As he ran down an alley screaming for help McComb chased after him. The victim then fired one shot, which police said struck and killed McComb. The victim was cleared of any criminal charges and police are still searching for the four offenders who got away with the victim’s wallet.
