Village of Matteson continues popular holiday traditions for Cook County residents

Sheila Chalmers-Currin- Village President of Matteson, IL- was joined on Friday, Dec.  6, by various state officials, local officials, Matteson Grade School students and hundreds of residents at the Village of Matteson Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event took place on the grounds of the Matteson Village Halls.

This year’s event drew hundreds of people throughout Southern Cook County. Matteson School District 159 played a pivotal by being the featured entertainment. This year’s music was provided by the Grade School Choir of the Colin Powell Middle School of Matteson. The popular choir rendered well known Christmas Carols in addition to music geared towards honoring our nation’s military.

“I’m grateful, honored and blessed about the sense of patriotism, holiday cheer and unity that is displayed each year during the Matteson Christmas Holiday season. Our mission is to always support, contribute and assist others who are in need of resources. Our Village is second to none as it relates to giving.” says President Chalmers-Currin.

Matteson School District Superintendent Dr. Maple Alfred is also expressing her joy concerning the many choirs throughout the District 159 school system that have participated in the yearly event.

”I’m honored as Superintendent of Schools to have witnessed our talented singers throughout our school system showcase their talents. The Colin Powell Grade School Choir is a huge attraction throughout the Village of Matteson. These young people have a very unique sound that fills the hearts of many who have been blessed by their songs of joy” says Dr. Alfred.
