Velvet Lounge to host programs of AACM

Velvet Lounge, 67 E. Cermak Rd., will host the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians March 28-31. Taking the stage March 28 will be Galaxy String Quartet consisting of Renee Baker, Tony Porter, Karl E.H. Seigfied and Chris Avgerin.

Other modern and avant-garde musicians joining the Quartet include Mat Hudson, Savoir, Khari Lemuel, Tomeka Reid Nicole Mitchell, Isaiah Spencer and Dave Williams. The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians has been active for more than four decades and has developed into a premier organization of talented musicians.

Its Great Black Music Ensemble will provide the entertainment March 29 Each night shows begin at 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; Friday- Sunday, showtime is 9:30 p.m. JOE’S BE-BOP CAFÉ, 600 E. Grand Ave., features jazz every evening beginning at 8 p.m. Kelly Brand, Mondays; Brother John, Tuesdays; Ken Chaney, Wednesdays; Tom Muelleer, Thursdays; Skinny Williams Quintet, Fridays; Hector Silveria, Saturdays and Alejo Poveda on Sundays.

NEW APARTMENT LOUNGE, 504 E. 75th St., features Von Freeman and Friends Jam on Tuesday evenings. ANDY’S CLUB, 11 E. Hubbard St., presents Carlos Johnson March 28; and Linsay Alexander, March 29. THE BACK ROOM, 1007 N. Rush St., features Carlos Cannon March 28 and 29. CHECKER JAZZ AT THE CHECKERBOARD, 5201 S. Harper Ave., presents Two for Brazil March 30.
