Vallas Endorsed by Mayoral Candidate and Alderman Roderick Sawyer

Sawyer is First 2023 Candidate to Endorse in Runoff Election

CHICAGO, IL — Paul Vallas was endorsed today by Alderman Roderick Sawyer, the first candidate in the 2023 mayoral election to make his support known in the runoff. The son of former Mayor Eugene Sawyer, Alderman Sawyer was elected in 2011 to represent the 6th Ward, which includes the South Side neighborhoods of Chatham, Chesterfield, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, Park Manor and Auburn-Gresham.

“Paul’s commitment to making our city safer and investing in historically underserved communities across the South Side is exactly what Chicago needs,” said Alderman Sawyer. “I’ve gotten to know Paul during the campaign and he is an honest, thoughtful and trustworthy leader that our city can count on.”

Vallas has announced several major momentum-building endorsements since last week’s election. He is being supported by former Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, Alderman Walter Burnett, former Chicago School Board President Gery Chico and more.

“Alderman Sawyer is one of our city’s most respected leaders and his endorsement is another major boost for our campaign,” said Vallas. “Rod Sawyer has always been a dedicated public servant who has devoted his life to our city, as well as being a true gentleman. Our campaign will continue to add more supporters in the coming days as we work to build a broad, diverse coalition of leaders who want the best for Chicago.”
