One of Chicago’s most anticipated summer galas is back—and it’s celebrating a significant milestone this year.
The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) will host its 25th annual Black & White Ball—formerly known as the “A Mind Is…” Gala—on Saturday, June 14, at The Geraghty in the Lower West Side. The event, known for its elegant dress code and mission-driven fundraising, aims to raise $1 million in scholarship funds for Black and Brown students pursuing higher education.
The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a reception, dinner, and a formal program beginning at 7 p.m.
A Premier Social Event with Purpose
Over the years, this gala has evolved into more than a stylish gathering. It’s a statement of purpose, part of a broader celebration of UNCF’s 81 years of working to ensure equal access to higher education for underrepresented communities.
Returning to its classic “Black and White” theme, the ball will feature a full program of entertainment, honors and inspiration.
Who’s Taking the Stage
- Emcees: Anita Blanton of FOX 32 and WGCI radio host Trey White will guide the evening.
- Entertainment: The legendary R&B group After 7 will perform, bringing their signature hits like “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop” to the stage. The group now features Kevon Edmonds, Wil Robinson, and Jeremy Keith.
Honoring Excellence
- Ariel Investments will receive the “A Mind Is…” Corporate Award, recognizing its impact and leadership in finance and equity.
- Nadia Rawlinson, Co-owner and Operating Chair of the Chicago Sky will be honored with the “A Mind Is…” Trailblazer Award for her groundbreaking leadership in professional sports.
Leading the Charge
This year’s Gala Chair is Sherina Maye Edwards, CEO-in-Residence at Red Arts Capital and a dual HBCU graduate of Spelman College and Howard University School of Law. A seasoned executive and former CEO of INTREN, Edwards represents the kind of leadership UNCF helps cultivate through its scholarship programs.
