For the first time in history, Chicago’s historic Chicago Defender newspaper and WVON 1690AM radio station are working together to distribute an authentic poll that will provide insight into Chicago’s mayoral race. It is clear, now more than ever, that the vote from Chicago’s African-American community could determine Chicago’s next mayor. The poll will be published in the April 1, 2015 Chicago Defender newspaper and the Chicago Defender’s Digital Daily and WVON’s website, a special edition of the WVON’Sider newsletter.
The Solomon Group, LLC, will analyze data gathered from African-American wards throughout the city of Chicago, to produce the polling results. Founded in 2008, the Solomon Group provides Business Intelligence and Data Analytics to its clients by providing custom market research, market analysis, survey work, data mining and data entry based upon specific client needs. The Solomon Group was established with the goal of empowering people of color and women and developing a community of leaders that would transform themselves, the communities they lived in and ultimately society.
“For the first time in 30 years black voters are going to the polls to cast their ballot for mayor without any African American representation.
“The Chicago Defender is proud to be working in conjunction with WVON to administer this poll of African American voters in this historic election of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Chicago. With the stakes being so high, obtaining an accurate gauge on the thoughts and intentions of the Black voting bloc is critical. From this, we can begin to get a firm vision of the issues that make up the minds of voters, which will translate into actual votes on Election Day. It is the longstanding tradition of the Chicago Defender to be the voice of the people, and this historic poll is in keeping with that 110 year-old tradition.”
