Angela Corey, the failed prosecutor in the infamous Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman trial, lost in her relection bid. But she wasn’t just defeated, she was pummeled in the polls.
Corey, who was also the state Florida prosecutor who tried to send Marissa Alexander away for 20 years for firing a warning shot at her abusive husband, lost by a gargantuan margin.
Melissa Nelson, an unknown corporate lawyer and former prosecutor three months ago, smashed Corey on her way to becoming one of the most powerful and influential figures in Northeast Florida on Tuesday night when she easily defeated Corey.
Melissa Nelson, a corporate lawyer and former prosecutor, claimed 64% of the vote over Corey’s 26% in the fourth circuit, which oversees Jacksonville, Fla. Nelson will face Kenny Leigh, a write-in candidate who runs a men’s only law firm, in the general election. But no write-in candidate has ever been elected to a state attorney position in Florida, the Florida Times-Union has reported.
Worse, but much less known is that Corey was famous for sending people do the death penalty that unfairly targeted blacks. And then there is this fact that a Twitter user pointed out:
Of the 77 kids #AngelaCorey charged as adults this year; 65 of them black. We needed to protect our children from HER
