The second season of “Truth Be Told”, the drama streaming exclusively on Apple TV + starring Octavia Spencer and Kate Hudson returned August 20th. Season two of the drama follows investigative reporter turned true-crime podcaster, Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) as she attempts to solve a new case involving her childhood friend, media mogul Micah Keith (Kate Spencer). In season one, Poppy’s investigation of a murder trial led to the release of convicted murderer Warren Cave who spent seventeen years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit but it came at a price to Poppy personally.
This season explores the consequences of the public’s obsession with True Crime, generational trauma, Poppy’s controversial podcast, and complicated family dynamics. The NAACP Award Winning (Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series) series delves into the murder of Micha’s husband who is found tragically murdered in a compromising position. Michah enlists Poppy’s help to find her husband’s killer but their friendship is tested. In “Truth Be Told”, everyone is suspicious and has a past filled with issues of loss, abandonment, and trauma. In addition to the murder of her friends’ husband, Poppy must deal with her past, the events from her first investigation, her issues with her family, and her own secrets.
Generational trauma is one of the themes for this season. Poppy is not the only character delving into her past, each character this season is forced to deal with their pasts in different ways.
Season 2 of “Truth Be Told” will have viewers guessing until the last episode where all is revealed.
