A veteran Chicago police officer who was allegedly captured on videotape beating a bartender after she refused to serve him is due in court. The trial for Anthony Abbate (ah-BAHT’-ee) is scheduled to begin Monday. The 40-year-old has pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery. Video footage taken in 2007 from a tavern security camera shows a man punching, kicking and throwing a bartender half his size to the floor. The footage was widely circulated online and replayed on news casts. Bartender Karolina Obrycka (ob-RYE’-kah) suffered injuries to her head, ribs and arms, and has sued Abbate and the city of Chicago. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
