A judge in Chicago has set a trial date for the off-duty police officer allegedly caught on camera pummeling a bartender after she refused to serve him more drinks. Cook County Judge John Fleming has scheduled a June 1 start for the criminal trial for Anthony Abbate (ah-BAHT’-ee). Abbate has pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery. Video footage from a bar security camera shows a man thought to be Abbate beating and throwing a female bartender half his size in 2007. The video was widely circulated online and replayed on news casts. Abbate is scheduled to return to court on May 13 for a status hearing. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
