Tom Tresser the editor of the book “Chicago Is Not Broke” stopped by the Defender to explain what is a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district and how they work. Tresser who’s been on a ward by ward crusade for the last several years to educate Chicagoans on the true nature of TIFs, shares how they actually siphon money away from the neighborhoods they were created to help.
The end results he says is that they actually maintain and contribute to the blight on the South and West Sides of Chicago, while the South Loop, West Loop and downtown are bustling with housing, entertainment and jobs. Watch the video and take our poll.
