Give him 60 Seconds and he’ll school you says, TikTok Historian, Shermann Thomas aka “Dilla”. The Auburn Gresham native is teaching Chicago history on the platform, TikTok. Inspired by a conversation with one of his daughters, he decided to use TikTok to share his knowledge of Chicago history.
This married father has a passion for history instilled in him by his father. With over 32 thousand followers, his TikTok videos have gone viral and been seen by millions. Thomas is a ComEd employee whose mission is to share Chicago history with the youth and encourage them to seek more information.
The Chicago Defender had a chance to speak with this local hero about inspiring a generation to learn more about history.
