The death of a three-year-old boy on Sunday was changed from being ruled accidental to homicide, police said. Jaquan Reed, along with his mother, was visiting the home of a friend in the 4700 block of West Van Buren when the boy’s mother left the room he was in with two other children. Moments later, a shot fired and the toddler was struck in the chest. It has not been determined who fired the shot or where the handgun came from, police said. According to police, the shooting appeared accidental. However, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide. The Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services is investigating the incident, and police have no one in custody.
