The Woman of Steele (WOS) Foundation is excited to announce its 1st Annual Scholarship Cotillion –Beautillion Program. Year 2015’s theme is “A Celebration of Scholars.” The Gala is Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Hilton, located 9333 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
This is an exciting time in the lives of youth as they transition from childhood to adulthood. As new young adults, twenty young females and males (known as Debs and Beaux) who have reached the age of maturity, will be introduced at this year’s extravagant Gala. The Debs and Beaux are graduating seniors (scholars) at high schools thought-out Chicago. They are active in their communities, churches and schools. These young adults are mentors, role models, musicians, athletes, volunteers, tutors, and future leaders of our communities, religious organizations and businesses.
The Cotillion-Beautillion Program presents young adults who exemplify strong morals and values, leadership, respect and service within their schools and communities. The Program fosters the educational goals of college-bound youths by giving those who have demonstrated exemplary moral standards, school involvement and outside activities the opportunity to participate in series of personal and professional development workshops.
Life skills workshops include: Etiquette skills, promoting high self-esteem, personal development & pride, effective communication & public speaking, career planning, career development and planning, college testing and studying tips, problem solving, critical thinking skills and improving socialization skills. The goal is for each participant to enhance their personal and professional growth, improve their leadership skills, meet community and business leaders and understand their success strategies. Cotillion-Beautillion participants will gain understanding of current social and economic issues that can impact their future and build life-long friendships with other outstanding young adults.
The Cotillion-Beautillion Gala will provide an opportunity for these college-bound young adults to earn scholarships that can be used toward college expenses. Joyce M. Steele is the Cotillion-Beautillion Chairman.
Woman of Steele Foundation (WOS) is a 501C3 non-profit organization established to pay tribute to the achievements of the Honorable Bobbie L. Steele, the first female president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners – the second largest county in America. Steele’s lifetime of achievements demonstrate that hard work, dedication, perseverance, and education are key elements to a successful future. WOS is passionate about instilling these same elements and more into the mindset of today’s youth; equipping them with the tools to become tomorrow’s leaders.
