The Pulse of Entertainment: ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1′ Declares War on the Games

Jennifer Lawrence stars in Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is back again as Katniss Everdeen in Lionsgate’s presentation of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 directed by Francis Lawrence. It arrives in theaters November 21, 2014.
In this installment of the Hunger Games franchise Katniss declares war on the games by becoming the face of the revolt, as Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is brainwashed into becoming the face of The Capitol, the creators of “the hunger games.”
Finally, it seems, there may be an end to the hunger games, or will it? As always The Hunger Games franchise keeps you guessing, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 does the same.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is base on the novel “Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins which has sold over 65 million copies in the U.S. Peter Craig and Danny Strong are the screenwriters.
In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 all of the characters has evolved. Liam Hemsworth is back as Gale Hawthorne who has changed since his (and Katniss’) home District 12 has been destroyed – he is now an elite soldier through and through; Academy Award nominated Woody Harrelson is back as Haymitch Abernathy but he is now sober; Emmy nominated Elizabeth Banks (Magic Mike XXL) is back as Effie Trinket but she is without the make-up and frills as a prisoner of war in District 13 – turned sympathizer; Academy Award nominated Julianne Moore is District 13 President Coin; Jeffrey Wright is Beetee the Master hacker who is vital to taking down The Capitol, and Donald Sutherland is back as President Snow.
The “games” has set the world on fire, literally, and Katniss is in District 13 after destroying the dome that protected the games in the last film which resulted, in this film, in a revolution from all districts. President Coin wants Katniss to be the face of the revolution to take down The Capitol and President Snow, and she takes on the task after seeing the devastation that has occurred to her home, and to find and rescue Peeta who is in the hands of the heartless President Snow. With Katniss heading the confrontation unbeknownst to them President Snow has a secret weapon.
Rated PG-13 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force and Jon Kilik. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, and Stanley Tucci also star in the film.
