The Harlem Quartet will make its Ravinia Festival debut April 24. The quartet, consisting of violinists Ilmar Gavilan and Melissa White, Juan-Miguel Hernandez on viola and Desmond Neysmith on the cello, will perform at the suburban Highland Park venue starting at 8 p.m.
First-Place laureates of the coveted Sphinx Competition, The Harlem Quartet will perform Haydn’s "String Quartet in D Minor," "Hob.III:76 (Fifths)," Ravel’s "String Quartet in F Major," Turina’s "La Oracion del Torero," Wynton Marsalis’ "At the Octoroon Balls" and Ellington’s "Take the ‘A’ Train."
The Harlem Quartet made its acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut in the fall of 2006 at the Sphinx Organization’s 10th anniversary gala, earning rave reviews.
