The Chicago White Sox celebrated members of their Amateur City Elite (ACE) Program with a special pregame ceremony on June 7th. Sixteen members of the White Sox ACE Class of 2022 all signed letters of intent to play baseball at the collegiate level.
Created by the White Sox in 2007, the ACE program provides quality baseball instruction as well as leadership and mentorship opportunities to athletes from underserved communities. These athletes, ages 12-17, engage in elite practice and competition while receiving academic direction.
With the 2022 graduates, more than 230 ACE participants have gone on to pursue higher education. The 2022 class of athletes has committed to colleges and universities across the country. The Chicago Defender spoke with ACE participants, Drew Horne, Ryan Little, and Larence White about their decision to take their talents to HBCUs and their involvement in the ACE program. We also spoke with Coach Robert Fletcher who works with the athletes in college recruitment about what the ACE program instills in these student-athletes.
Over 65 former ACE players compete at HBCU’s across the country and over a dozen ACE coaches played baseball at HBCUs.
