The Chicago Defender Endorses Kim Foxx for State’s Attorney
CHICAGO (March 1, 2016, ) – The Chicago Defender announces its endorsement of Kim Foxx for State’s Attorney. After thorough examination of the candidates for States Attorney, the Chicago Defender Editorial Board says “Foxx is the best candidate to restore trust in the State’s Attorney’s office.”
It is clear to us that better representation of the people who are directly impacted by the States Attorney’s office is needed. Blacks are overrepresented at 56% percent of the incarcerated in Illinois prisons and jails. Greater diversity must be integrated into the elected workforce to assure that the public is better served. As a progressive leader and a consistent advocate for the advancement of working people, Kim Foxx has a proven track record.
We met with Kim Foxx and it is clear that once she is elected her plan to provide greater transparency will help to restore confidence and faith in the Illinois legal system. She will work within the law to better serve the community. Her goal is to mend the lost respect and trust in a broken system under the leadership of the incumbent.
Kim Foxx’s shared experience with the community that is impacted most by the seeming disparity in how cases are charged provides the necessary insight that can breathe renewed hope in a system that has divided the people into fractions, yet has forced our hand to change it.
We look forward to her triumph.
