We have plans for a busy and successful 2010. Still, we thank each and every one of our loyal readers, advertisers and sponsors for their support in 2009 and we anticipate continued support as we move into the new year.

Like for many of our readers, advertisers and sponsors, 2009 presented many challenges and major reductions in sales and profits.

However, with your support we have been able to continue producing a quality newspaper and quality events that showcase the achievements of those who work hard to improve the quality of life of Black people in the Chicagoland area.

As we approach the start of a new year, we are confident that the Chicago Defender will provide you with relevant and exciting news coverage. We look forward to covering the political challenges, the 2010 census, new leadership in the public schools, crime in the community and other subjects of interest to our community.

With our new home office at 4445 S. King Drive (with plenty of free parking), we look forward to you visiting us to renew your subscriptions, place ads in the paper, inform us of events and happenings in the community or just to say “hello.”

The year 2010 marks the 105th anniversary of the Chicago Defender and we look forward to a big celebration throughout the month of May.

Plan to stop by the Defender headquarters during the Bud Billiken parade in August. We will host families and friends throughout the day as the parade celebrates its 81st birthday.

We have plans for a busy and successful 2010. Still, we thank each and every one of our loyal readers, advertisers and sponsors for their support in 2009 and we anticipate continued support as we move into the new year.

Wishing you and your family a safe and Happy New Year.

Michael House, president
