Art Talk–Andre Guichard’s Gallery Guichard, 3521 S. King Dr., will be the setting of Monday’s Collectors Talk, a fundraiser to benefit the Chicago Bears’ Charles Tillman (#33) Cornerstone Foundation, whose mission is to improve the lives of critically and chronically ill children through Greater Chicago. The Foundation provides daily support and life-changing experiences. Being a young collector himself, Tillman will also use the event to educate guests on the importance of investing in fine art with the help of renowned collector, author (African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond) and educator, Daniel T. Movie Madness–The Good Guys of WVON-AM/1450 host a special screening of the just-released film, Cadillac Records, at the ICE Theater (Chatham) on W. 87th St., on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The film chronicles the rise of Leonard Chess (Adrian Brody) and his Chicago-based Chess Records, which touted the careers of such artists as Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright), Little Walter (Columbus Short), Chuck Berry (Moss Def), Willie Dixon (Cedric the Entertainer), Howlin’Wolf (Emanon Walker) and Etta James (Beyonce Knowles). Global Glory–Distinguished global leader Janet Nkubana, founder and president of the Gahaya Links Inc. and a basketweaver from the Rwanda Path to Peace Movement, received a $5,000 check from Dr. Gwendolyn Lee, president of The Links, Inc., Tuesday, that represented proceeds from an auction of Rwandan baskets donated by Macy’s. Nkubana, recipient of the 2008 Laureate for the African Prize “for leadership for the sustainable end of hunger for her work with the Rwandan Peace Basket Weavers” was being honored at Macy’s on State St. for her work empowering women to achieve economic stability. At the reception hosted by Ralph Hughes, Macy’s regional vice president of corporate communications, Nkubana described her work, demonstrated weaving and signed baskets that are giving hope to women throughout Africa.

Stronger, president of the Cook County Board, addressed the 400 or more attendees from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, the U.K. and Kenya who were here at the Monday morning Welcome Breakfast for the 30th Annual Conference of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws at the Westin River North Hotel.
