It seems as though some unscrupulous person( s) have infiltrated the Hotmail (e-mail) account of LaDonna Tittle, one of my fave media sistahs, legendary radio host/TV actress, and hostproducer of “Tittle in the Middle” Productions (Cookin’ wit’ Tittle, CAN-TV/44). They have managed to change her password so that she can no longer access her account. The “crook” sent an e-mail from the U.K. to one of LaDonna’s friends (maybe even more!), asking for a loan, “750 GB Pounds or whatever you can afford as I have misplaced my wallet on the way to the hotel where my money and other valuable things were kept.”
“I will like you to assist me with a soft loan urgently” the e-mail continues, with the sum of (750 GB Pounds) to sort-out my hotel bills and get myself back home. I will appreciate whatever you can afford, i’ll pay back as soon as i return, Please let me know.

The e-mail is full of grammatical and punctuation errors and misspellings – far from LaDonna’s writing capabilities. Therefore the recipient of the email was leery and immediately sent a response to LaDonna via another of her email addresses. I learned of this when I ran into LaDonna while we were both shopping in our neighborhood Walgreen’s. In the meantime, she is contacting a number of law enforcement agencies in order to find the “crook.” So, dear readers, be especially careful. Above all, keep your password to yourself. The perpetrator(s) even changed the answer to LaDonna’s secret question–What is your childhood pet’s name?

Toy Drive–To provide assistance to the numerous needy families and children under the huge strain of the current economic climate, The100 Black Men of Chicago and The Nielsen Co., a leading global information and media firm, have joined forces to make Christmas special for the less fortunate. The 100 Black Men organization ’s Annual Toy Drive is slated for Dec. 9, 6 p.m.–10 p.m., at Excalibur, 632 N. Dearborn, and those who would like to share in the spirit of giving and holiday cheer are asked to either bring an unwrapped toy for a child age 4–18, valued at $20, or donate $25.
“The 100 Black Men, as a whole, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for African Americans through its various programs,” says Keisha Smith, Nielsen’s public affairs manager. “Christmas is about bringing families closer together, and at Nielsen, we believe that it is important to give back to the many families who help us ensure that we accurately represent all communities.”

Saving Our Girls–Cheryl Burton, ABC 7 Chicago newscaster, and Bionce Foxx, WGCI-FM/107.5 Radio’s “on-air” personality, will each receive high honor and peacock praise at the inaugural “Li’l S.I.S. (Sisters Inspiring Sisters) Expo Chicago,” a two-day event this Saturday and Sunday at Paul Robeson High School. The free, city-wide non-profit expo for African American teen girls, ages 13-18, will feature an open-mic poetry cafe, public speaking competition, entertainment and computer giveaways in addition to intensive workshops on life skills in four areas: my body, my future, my world and my relationships. Both professionals and girl peer groups will lead seminars.
The expo is designed, says April D. Preyar, a criminal defense attorney who created this event as a result of her participation in the Self Expression Leadership Program in Landmark Education, to tackle the challenge of turning around the trend of failure currently facing this demographic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 50 percent of African American teen girls have at least one sexually transmitted disease, and the Ill. Dept. of Health lists Illinois as having the third highest rate of teen pregnancy.
Li’l S.I.S. Expo has partnered with the Chicago Public Schools, Cook County Juvenile Disproportionate Minority Contact Initiative, Cook County Juvenile Probation Department (girls division), Englewood Difference-Makers Coalition, Girl Scouts of America and Metropolitan Family Services to promote this program. Congrats–to Betty Smith, founder and executive director of the South Side Help Center, who was among a distinguished group of Chicago femmes honored as “Unsung Heroes” during the “Sisterspeak Luncheon & Awards Ceremony” co-hosted by Ebony magazine and the makers of Pine-Sol Cleaners. Created by Ebony, Sisterspeak travels nationally to identify women who are making a positive difference in their communities. Smith was recognized for her dedication to serving the community in spite of numerous obstacles.
SSHC was established in 1987 to educate the faith community on being sensitive to the personal, physical and spiritual needs of people infected with HIV disease. This was no small task, Smith admits, as there was a prevalence of misinformation and prejudice against persons infected with HIV. While some of the stigma has been removed, HIV continues to devastate the African American community. Under her leadership, SSHC has expanded its services and currently provides after-school programs for young people, families in shelters, young moms, substance abusers and former incarcerated persons returning to the community, all numbering some 500,000 individuals.
The award was presented at the Swissotel by Jarvis Brown, manager of consumer print with the Clorox Co. Other honorees: Sylanda Brant, founder, Never Too Late Foundation; Annette
Kelly, founder, FOCUS Youth Development Services; Linette Kinchen, Grand Families Program of Chicago; and D’Lana O’Neal, founder, Local-Motions. The program also included Diane Amos, bestknown as The Pine-Sol lady in TV commercials; Valorie Burton, award-winning author/speaker; and Amanda Hunt, Chicago winner of the Jet magazine and Pine-Sol “Women Making a Powerful Difference through Song” contest.
