The second annual Teens in the Park Fest (T.I.P. Fest) on Saturday was as lively as ever. The concert at Northerly Island caters to younger Chicagoans, those aged 14-24, and offers a safe space for teens to have fun while also being exposed to a variety of resources and campaigns.
Donda’s House, the Chicago-based youth arts charity named for Kanye West’s mother, and the Chicago Park District’s Teen Leadership Connection worked to put this year’s show together. The lineup showcased local Chicago talent like Kweku Collins, Spenzo and Mark Hood. Along with a surprise performance by Katie Got Bandz, the show was headlined by Chicago artists The Boy Illinois, Jamila Woods and Sir the Baptist.
During the fun of the concert, most artists took time out to acknowledge the recent occurrences of police brutality in the news, such as the murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and encouraged the audience to raise their fists or peace signs in solidarity.
