Teenage Victims Identified in Fatal Shooting in Front of Loop High School

The two teenage boys who were fatally shot Friday by masked gunmen as they and other students were leaving a Chicago high school in the Loop have been identified.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victims were 17-year-old Monterio Williams and 16-year-old Robert Boston. Police said that both teens died at a hospital.

Police reported that both teenagers were hit in the chest by gunfire, with Williams additionally sustaining a gunshot wound to the hip.

It all occurred as Williams, Boston and other Innovations High School students left the school on Friday afternoon. That’s when, according to police, masked suspects jumped out of two cars in front of the school and opened fire on the group.

No arrests have been made in connection to the killings as of Sunday evening.

Chicago Police Deputy Chief Jon Hein described the shooting as a “senseless act of violence” and highlighted that a woman walking in the vicinity had her jacket grazed by a bullet.

City officials issued statements in the aftermath of the horrific event.

Mayor Brandon Johnson:

Today, outside of Innovations High School, two students were tragically shot as classes were starting to dismiss for the weekend. I extend my deepest condolences to their families and the Innovations High School community as they grapple with unimaginable pain and trauma caused by this senseless act of violence.

The Chicago Police Department is actively investigating and the Mayor’s Office of Community Safety has activated its victim services support teams to aid victims’ families and fellow students.

My prayers and those of my entire administration are with everyone impacted during this difficult time.

34th Ward Alderman Bill Conway:

My heart and condolences go out to the victims’ loved ones on this sudden loss and tragedy. We need to do more to curb gun violence and make all of Chicago safer. Nothing is more important, and I will do everything in my power to ensure law enforcement has the resources they need to fight and deter crime.

We are in close communication with CPD’s 1st District and will provide additional information on this ongoing investigation as it becomes available.
