A 15-year-old boy was charged as an adult in the shooting death of 13-year-old Sameere Conn, who was gunned down earlier this month in a convenience store near his Southeast Side home.

The boy, whose name is being withheld by police because he is a juvenile, was charged with first-degree murder.

After football practice the evening of Oct. 1, Conn stopped with a friend inside of Hook Finer Foods on 106th Street and Bensley Avenue to buy a bag of chips.

Moments later, shots rang out and the Bright Elementary School student was hit in his side. He died the next day.

Police said the young shooter targeted a 27-year-old man, an alleged gang rival, who ran inside the store. He was injured.

The boy is scheduled to appear in juvenile court today. ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
