A 16-year-old boy who was allegedly playing with a gun in the 9400 block of South Prairie Avenue Thursday afternoon suffered a cut to his face when the barrel exploded, police said. The teen, who has no criminal history, was treated and released from Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, then arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, police said. As officers in an unmarked police car were making their way to the scene, responding to the call of a man with a gun (who turned out to be the teen), their vehicle was involved in a collision near 95th Street and Parnell Avenue. Three officers and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to separate hospitals in good condition, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. The officers were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, and the fourth person was taken to Roseland Community Hospital.

Additional officers followed up on the call to arrest the teen. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
