A white drama teacher at Calumet Perspective High School on the South Side was charged last week with three felonies after allegedly sleeping with three Black teenage boys. According to Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, Rebecca Daniels, 37, was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual assault. Malon Edwards, a spokesman for Chicago Public Schools, said Calumet is a charter school and not operated by CPS. “We are deeply saddened to learn of the arrest of a Perspectives Calumet High School teacher, who was beginning her third year of teaching with us,” said Diana Shulla-Cose, president and co-founder of Perspective Charter Schools. “We immediately notified the Chicago Police Department and other authorities after we learned of the allegations involving this teacher, and removed her from her teaching duties.”    Daniels allegedly had a sexual relationship with two 16 year olds and one 15 year old during the summer. She appeared in bond court Oct. 25 before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Isreal Desierto who set her bail at $100,000. On Tuesday, Daniels was released from Cook County Jail after posting 10 percent of her bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Daniels was unavailable for comment. She is due back in court Nov. 14 for a preliminary hearing. ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
