Chicago get ready for the powerful production—Voice of a Child, presented by nationally acclaimed actor Richard Gallion. The rising actor has shared the stage with Carl Payne, Elise Neal, Terri J. Vaughn, Clifton Powell, Jackee Harry, Ginuwine, Erica Hubbard, and Darrin Henson. While Chicago’s youth are experiencing unprecedented challenges, the multi-talented director, producer and writer is determined to give youths an opportunity in theater.
The up and coming thespian also promises this production impact lives, “The story chronicles the life of a teenager inside a foster home that suffered the unthinkable—it is so much bigger than each of us and people will see that after the production,” said Gallion who also stars in the stage play. “Then the voice of this one child explores different storylines and the characters are forced to deal with their own truths. In the midst of joy and pain, you will see that all detours are not so bad.”
The Chicago native has garnered an impressive track record and most notable in the movie Black Butterfly available on Netflix and TheGood Life released this Tuesday. Also, his roles in GMC’s televised gospel plays, Love Me or Leave Me and Ideal Husband written and produced by John Ruffin. It’s hard to believe that Gallion’s career began just five years ago.
“I was hanging out with a friend who invited me to rehearsal and I got the acting bug,” Gallion said. “The guy that they asked me to read for was a no show and no call—I took on the roll and someone saw me—from there they took me serious.”
Two years later, writing and producing came just as natural as acting with Gallion’s debut project entitled, Living Without Love and now his most recent, Voice of A Child.
“I was paying attention to society and something that God showed me in a vision—I wrote it and more ideas came and next thing…I had a whole production,” Gallion said. “I paid attention to the content and named it Voice of a Child. I knew it was going to be a play because it was the same thing that happened with Living Without Love…I saw things happening in real life, then I saw visions and dreams and put it all together.”
In addition to acting, the handsome entertainer has also ripped the runway.
“They asked me to be the face of this clothing line and I just did it to be doing something. Then I was walking downtown and was discovered by Ebony and Jet—from there I modeled for Ebony Fashion Fair for a year,” Gallion shared.
The former model seems to have a knack for most things.
“They just said walk tall with confidence and that was simple,” expressed the actor. The Founder of R &J productions encourages others to use their gifts and talents. “Never doubt yourself and never say what you can’t do…nothing beats a failure but a try.”
In the meantime, keep your eyes on the big screen. Gallion is currently filming an anticipated blockbuster project, the only comments he could make is “People can definitely see me next year.” The encore presentation and live taping is Sunday, July 21, at 5 p.m. at Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 S.
