Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx claimed a victory last night. The incumbent beat out her staunchest rival, adjunct DePaul University professor Bill Conway, whose campaign was primarily financed by his billionaire father, William Conway Jr. He spent millions of dollars on television ads criticizing Foxx's handling of the Jussie Smollet case and her ties to embattled Chicago Alderman, Edward Burke. Foxx won with 50.2% of the vote, Conway had 31.3%.

After a panel discussion between five of the Illinois Supreme Court judge candidates, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and opponent Bill Conway participated in a debate, offering their solutions to the city's most pressing issues. Held at Progressive Baptist Church on Chicago's South Side, the candidates answered questions concerning the poor, gun control, the school-to-prison pipeline, marijuana, and the cash bail system. The discussion was moderated by David Swanson, pastor of New Community Covenant Church in Bronzeville.

In a conversation about the legacy of poverty in Chicago with Darryl Holliday, from City Bureau, the Mayor stated how she plans to end poverty in a generation. "Poverty is killing us," Lightfoot said. "Literally and figuratively killing us. All of us."
Steve Benjamin, the three-term mayor and one of the first African Americans in elected to the office, put his support behind former Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Major Benjamin wanted a chance for the African American community to hear directly from the Bloomberg campaign.
