Bringing fusions of urban art and music to create a one-of-a-kind cultural experience to everyone from the seasoned art collector, the social media enthusiast, and the hip-hop community, the Art, Beats, and Lyrics event was a perfect blend of various artforms.
The top 8 boys and girls teams from around Chicago competed in the Gatorade Jr. NBA All-Star Invitational at Navy Pier Saturday, February 15th. Held during NBA All-Star 2020, the tournament kicked off at 9 am with the semifinals. Teams went head to head in a single-elimination tournament pitting the top 13 and 14-year-old players against one another for the chance to play in the championships held later that day at Wintrust Arena.
Chicago native, Team Michael Wilbon beat Team Stephen A. Smith 62-47 in the NBA Celebrity Game held at the Wintrust Arena Friday night. Lead by Chicago rapper and Oscar Winner, Common; the team overpowered Team Smith, led by Chicago artist Chance the Rapper.
The 13th All-Star Gospel Celebration, founded by Tameka Holyfield, was a befitting celebration of gospel in Chicago, the gospel music capital. Featuring NBA players past and present who unashamedly profess their Christian faith and encourage upcoming players who love the Lord to do the same and to do it unapologetically, the show was hosted by Maurice Evans; former NBA player turned successful businessman and entrepreneur and Sonya Blake, Chicago’s own 1390 AM gospel radio personality.
