A former sheriff’s deputy is going for the top spot in the county’s law enforcement office.
Sylvester Baker, a 22-year veteran in the sheriff’s office, told the Defender, “It’s time for new leadership. The people of Cook County deserve more than what they’re getting from (Cook County Sheriff Tom) Dart.”
Baker, who retired from the sheriff’s department in 2003 and is currently a licensed real estate broker and public safety officer with the City Colleges of Chicago, announced his plans last week to oust Dart.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in public administration and is pursuing a master’s degree in psychology.
