Authorities have charged a suspect in the shooting of an 18-year-old Chicago woman killed the same day her sister listened to President Barack Obama talk about gun control.
Twenty-one-year-old Jim McPherson was charged with murder, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
A judge in Lake County Court set his bond Wednesday at $3 million. He remained in custody and was next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
Janay McFarlane was shot once in the head around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the city of North Chicago where she was visiting friends and family.
On the same day, McFarlane’s younger sister was among those just feet away from Obama at Chicago’s Hyde Park Career Academy, listening to him speak about gun violence.
