Supporters of two Chicago Public Schools coaches accused of paddling athletes are pleading that they not be fired.

Supporters of two Chicago Public Schools coaches accused of paddling athletes are pleading that they not be fired. Local school council president Earlean Green asked the CPS board Wednesday to give Marshall High School coach Courtney Hargrays another chance. District officials say an internal investigation has found that Hargrays and Mandel Oliver of Morgan Park High School violated a state ban by paddling students. The two men will have hearings before CPS takes action. CPS superintendent Arne Duncan has recommended that the district remove Oliver and Hargrays from their jobs. President-elect Barack Obama picked Duncan for Secretary of Education earlier this week. CPS officials have said that their investigation includes six cases of paddling.
