Subzero temps freeze Illinois

The good news is that temperatures should begin to warm slightly in Illinois over the coming few days. The bad news is that a snowstorm could roll in and wallop the state just as the brutal cold eases. The National Weather Service says temperatures are hovering around zero in the northern tier of the state. But winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour make it feel closer to 20 below. It’s hardly balmy in the rest of the state. Temperatures in southern Illinois are closer to 10 degrees. Wind chill drops it to around zero. Warmer air should start pushing into the state Monday night. Temperatures could rise to the mid-20s Tuesday. But that should coincide with several inches of snowfall Tuesday and Wednesday.  AP ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
