In a seven-candidate race, former Ford Heights village trustee Charles Griffin came out the victor with 34 percent of the vote to replace Saul Beck as mayor. Beck was elected mayor in 2005.

Deyon Dean, a trustee for the Village of Riverdale for the last 12 years who served on the Youth Commission and as chair of the Community Affairs Committee in Riverdale, ousted two-term incumbent Zenovia Evans for the mayoral post. He received 63 percent of the vote. Dean, who also ran against Evans in 2001, is a commissioner with the Illinois Dept. of Human Services.
