A west suburban Chicago man has died after a car he was leaning into sped away, then flipped over, severing his legs. Maywood police say 51-year-old Jerry Mays was partially inside a vehicle and talking to its driver when the car started moving. Commander Tim Curry says Mays was still "holding on." Officials say the car traveled about a block before hitting a curb and fire hydrant and flipping over. Police say Mays’ legs were severed while the driver’s injuries were less serious. Mays was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says Mays was a resident of Willowbrook. Police are investigating the accident. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
