CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says the cash-strapped state will spend $75 million to keep a temporary jobs program going while it waits to get more money for it from Congress. Illinois is extending the "Put Illinois to Work" program. The program is set to expire Sept. 30 because Congress has not voted to extend funding for it. Illinois is hoping Congress will vote to do that after the November election. Quinn said Tuesday he isn’t worried. In the meantime, the state will use $75 million to keep alive the program that has put more than 26,000 workers into $10 an hour jobs with both public and private sector employers.
