Golden Gate Funeral Home recently partnered with Instavaxx, a medical provider that specializes in COVID-19 vaccinations, to bring vaccine directly to the southside community of Auburn Gresham. A place that provides comfort as final life arrangements are planned and executed, is serving as a temporary Pfizer vaccination site to provide hundreds of doses to the neighborhood residents especially seniors. “It is important to us as good community citizens, to do all we can to support and ensure the sustainability of our communities, especially with our seniors,” shared Sylvester Dunn General Manager, Golden Gate Funeral Home. “And helping to make the vaccine accessible to our Black and Brown communities must be a priority, and we’re willing to do what we can in order to help get shots in arms and come through this pandemic.” The city of Chicago continues to prioritize equity as the guiding pillar for vaccine distribution with programs such as the Protect Chicago Plus initiative, which brings resources and temporary vaccination sites to communities identified as most impacted by Covid-19. Such efforts as the Golden Gate temporary site bridges the gap for neighborhoods outside of the 15 Protect Chicago Plus areas.
“With a third surge of Covid-19 cases and the potential of exposure to variants, it is even more imperative to get as many people vaccinated as possible, especially those most susceptible to serious illness,” continues Dunn. “Our goal is to alleviate the need to travel outside of the community in order to be vaccinated. Golden Gate will bring multiple special vaccination events and are working with a variety of
community partners, local clergy and Alderman Derrick Curtis to reach into the community to encourage residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The next event is scheduled for Thursday, April 22 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. No registration is required walkups are welcome and encouraged. Golden Gage is located at 2036 W 79th Street. All are welcome.
