South Suburban College Foundation Hosts ‘Hollywood Awards’ Gala for Deserving Students

The South Suburban College Foundation hosts its annual “Hollywood Awards: A Black & White Affair, A Night of Dreams, Success, and Scholarships,” on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m. at the Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park.

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, this highly anticipated event is back to support scholarship programs and deserving students.

This spring scholarship gala will feature dinner, dancing and an electrifying silent auction.

Distinguished guests at the event will be South Suburban College alums LaRoyce Hawkins, known for playing officer Kevin Atwater on NBC’s Chicago PD, and Ray Cortopassi, an anchor with WGN Evening News.

This year’s gala aims to provide a platform to uplift deserving students and raise funds for scholarships, making education accessible to all, regardless of background, according to SSCF President Lynette Stokes.

Hawkins, an eminent South Suburban College alumnus and acclaimed actor from NBC’s Chicago PD, will deliver the gala’s keynote speech. His journey from South Suburban to the big screen exemplifies the transformative power of education and serves as a source of inspiration for students and audiences alike.

Cortopassi, whose own journey led him to become an anchor for one of the most prominent stations in the Chicagoland area, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the evening. Cortopassi’s support underscores the institution’s commitment to empowering students through education and creating pathways to success.

The “Hollywood Awards: A Black & White Affair” gala promises an unforgettable evening of glamor, generosity and celebration. It is where dreams are realized, success is honored and scholarships pave the way for a brighter future.
