South Side Wendy's Gets a New Facelift

Major restaurant franchise, Wendy’s has undergone reconstruction, closing the Garfield Boulevard location for the winter. Although, the billboard marquee which has been a stable in the Washington Park/East Englewood community for the past twenty years, it’s often a great welcome for commuters traveling along the I-94 Dan Ryan expressway.

Today is the re-grand opening of the restaurant which sports a more modern glass exterior, outdoor eating patio and inside features a sprawling wooden floor, equipped with two fireplaces, two flat screen televisions, a stationary counter with several electrical outlets and complimentary wifi to create a ‘business’ friendly environment.
The bright red structure is a great sign of the community improvements that is drawing new comers to one of Chicago’s economically challenged neighborhoods.
“The investment that Wendy’s has made to their restaurant at 55th St. and Princeton Ave. continues the amazing growth of businesses across the 3rd Ward. I am delighted to have new private development and jobs in the Fuller Park community and applaud the company’s efforts to support the Hall Branch Library summer reading program, as well as the students at Sherwood Elementary school.” said Alderman Pat Dowell.
Currently, the restaurant is looking hire 12 new additional positions and welcoming job applicants. Community organizations are looking to support and assist the franchise’s efforts in providing community engagement with other area business owners.
Donna Hampton-Smith, President & CEO of The Washington Park Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. “The Washington Park Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to maintaining a great partnership with Wendy‘ s Restaurant and is excited about the grand re-opening. It is our goal to give them the added support they need, because we believe when businesses thrive, so do people. Economic revitalization promised in our communities, changes the whole fabric of a community – both mentally, socioeconomically, and physically.” said Smith.
