South Side Healthy Community Organization to Host Inaugural Health Fair

The South Side Healthy Community Organization is excited to announce its first-ever Community Empowerment Health Fair, a free event designed to bring vital health resources and wellness activities to the community.

The fair will take place on Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kroc Community Center, located at 1250 W. 119th Street.

This family-friendly event will feature an expert panel discussion on mental health, moderated by SSHCO CEO Kimberly Hobson.

The panel, scheduled from 11-11:45 a.m., will include Dr. Olusimbo Ige, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH); Dr. Travis Amengual, a psychiatrist at Sinai Hospital; and Ms. Nita Marchant, a behavioral health specialist at Beloved Wellness Center.

This discussion aims to provide insights and answer community questions on mental health challenges and solutions.

In addition to the panel, attendees can benefit from a range of free health services. These include high blood pressure, diabetes, and STI testing. The fair also offers various wellness activities, such as family yoga and Zumba classes, along with practical support like job training and hiring opportunities. Families in need will appreciate the availability of free baby supplies and other giveaways.

Several prominent healthcare and community organizations are participating in the event. Confirmed vendors include the Chicago Department of Public Health, CountyCare, TCA Health, Chicago Family Health Center, and Beloved Community Family Wellness Center.

The SSHCO, funded by state health transformation dollars, aims to improve health outcomes for residents on Chicago’s south side. It brings together thirteen healthcare partners, including hospital systems and clinics, to enhance access to medical care and services. The organization focuses on hiring more medical providers and care coordinators and connecting people to essential services such as healthy foods, job and housing services, and transportation to and from medical appointments.

“We are thrilled to host our inaugural health fair and bring these vital resources directly to our community,” said Kimberly Hobson, CEO of SSHCO. “Our goal is to empower residents with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their health and well-being.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with healthcare experts, receive free health screenings, and enjoy a day filled with activities designed to promote wellness in our community. For more information, visit the SSHCO website or contact the organization directly.
