The Friday morning commute was aggravated by a snowfall that crept in late Thursday into predawn. The National Weather Service issued a statement late Thursday night calling for Chicago and Northwest Indiana to expect at least one inch of snow per hour to fall starting early Friday. The snow was predicted to fall into late morning but so far has stopped.
Temperatures dipped to the single-digits Monday with negative windchills and by Friday a high of 30 degrees is expected. That makes conditions favorable for accumulation, but also for slippery roads and pavements, according to NWS.
Monday’s temperatures are expected to climb into the 40s.
Winter weather advisories and storm warnings were in effect from southeastern Missouri eastward into Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Parts of Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia were also bracing for hazardous wintry conditions.
