The 16-year-old honor student at Fenger High School was brutally attacked September 24 during a melee blocks away from the South Side high school. Police said Albert walked into a massive brawl of more than 30 teens, mostly fellow students from Fenger, as he headed home after school.

The heinous beating was captured on amateur video that was initially turned over to a local media outlet before being given to police. The video received national attention, including from the White House. President Barack Obama has dispatched to Chicago the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the nation’s education secretarywho is the former CEO of Chicago’s public school system. They are expected to be in town next week to talk about violence in the public schools.

Four teens Silvanus Shannon, 19, Eugene Bailey, 18, Eugene Riley, 18 and Eric Carson, 16 were charged with first-degree murder in Albert’s beating death. Three others are being sought, police said.

Food and financial donations for the family are needed, according to Fenger. Food for the repast can be sent to Greater Mt. Hebron and financial donations can be sent to the family’s home church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7950 S. Normal. Ave.
