The feat tied the record set by Steffi Graf for most major championships in the Open era. Williams now stands behind only Margaret Court’s all-time mark of 24 titles, according to ABC News.
“It was awesome,” Williams said after the match. “I mean, I still really can’t believe it — that I have 22 titles … I still get a little lost for words when I think about it.”
Williams and her sister Venus also won their 14th Grand Slam doubles titles together, beating the team of Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The sisters hadn’t won a title since 2012.
Congratulations to Venus and Serena!
