Secretary of State Jesse White And Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky Endorse Justice Nathaniel R. Howse for Illinois Supreme Court

With Democratic Party slating scheduled for next week, the race for Illinois Supreme Court is heating up. Justice Nathaniel R. Howse received a significant boost with the endorsements of Secretary of State Jesse White and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky said of Justice Howse, “With Nathaniel Howse on the Illinois Supreme Court, our most vulnerable populations will have a voice in the highest court in our State.  I proudly endorse Nathaniel Howse because he will protect the civil and constitutional rights of all people, not just the wealthy and powerful.”

Secretary of State Jesse White stated, “His rulings have allowed victims to be properly restored, wrongdoers to be held accountable and allowed justice and common sense to prevail.”

Justice Nathaniel R. Howse spoke last, “I am honored to receive the endorsements of Secretary White and Congresswoman Schakowsky. I and humbled by their support, along the with support of so many other community leaders in our community.  I am energized by the amount of support our campaign has received to ensure all Illinoisans receive equal protection under the law.”

Justice Nathaniel R. Howse, Jr. was born in a small town in Tennessee. He attended segregated schools while his family suffered under Jim Crow. Justice Nathaniel R. Howse, Jr. received his undergraduate and law degrees from Loyola University of Chicago. He was in private practice for 22 years before becoming a judge. Justice Howse has a demonstrated history fighting for social justice and voting rights and was awarded the William R. Ming, Jr. award for his contributions to the protecting civil rights. During his legal career, he worked on a case with former President of the United States Barack Obama. Justice Howse also fought against the City of Chicago’s discriminatory employment practices and to guarantee voting rights of African-American citizens of Chicago.
