A Chicago private school that the Blagojevich administration is ordering to repay an accidental $1 million grant wants a hearing to plead its case.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will arrange for Loop Lab School to tell an outside hearing officer why it should get to keep the grant.
Department spokeswoman Ashley Cross said a date hasn’t been set.
Blagojevich meant to give a $1 million grant to help rebuild Pilgrim Baptist Church in January 2006. But money mistakenly went to Loop Lab School, which rented space from the church.
The school bought a business condo in downtown Chicago but has not reopened. The Blagojevich administration claims the school didn’t comply with terms of the grant. AP
