Schakowsky to run again for House, not Senate

EVANSTON, Ill. — Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky plans to run again for the U.S. House and take a pass on a U.S. Senate campaign.

EVANSTON, Ill. — Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky plans to run again for the U.S. House and take a pass on a U.S. Senate campaign. Schakowsky (shuh-KOW’-skee) announced her plans Monday. She says she’d seriously considered a Senate run but decided against it because of the time, energy and massive fundraising efforts needed for a successful campaign. The Evanston Democrat says the next few years in Congress represent what she calls "a once in a lifetime opportunity to make progressive change." Schakowsky says that includes efforts to provide health care to all Americans, work toward energy independence and pass immigration reform. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
