Throngs thundered down the streets of Manhattan in New York as part of the “Millions March” to protest the killings of unarmed black men by white police officers. An incessant number of nonviolent resistant movements have popped up in major metropolises since the seemingly inexplicable killing of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Mo. on Aug. 9, and the choke hold death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, one borough over from Manhattan.millionsmarch2
The #MillionsMarchNY commenced at Washington Square Park and wound up One Police Plaza in front of the New York Police Department Headquarters. The NYPD estimated the crowd at more than 27,000 people.
The #MillionsMarchNYC coordinated with protesters in other cities around the country, including Washington D.C. and the Oakland-Berkeley region in the Bay Area.
