Roy Roberts retires from GM

 

 

Roy S. Roberts, who was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder in May 2011 to serve as Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager under the Local Government and School District Fiscal Accountability Act announced his retirement to school officials and union members this morning. The state-appointee said he will retire in the next two weeks from his job at the helm of the state’s largest school district.

Roberts, 74, said his contract expires May 16. and due to financial and academic progress in the etroit Public Schools system coupled with the announcement earlier this month of the five-year strategic plan developed with input from 600 participants, put the district on a path toward self-governance.

Roberts expects the financial emergency will be over in the next three years.
